I’m generally not one to follow trends, especially the ones that make you look ridiculous in the name of fashion. Sure, girls can say we don’t dress for guys, but unless you like the ladies, you should probably listen when guys are telling you that something makes you look like you’re working in the circus or a soup kitchen. Here are 6 fall 2013 must-have trends for less that I’m actually really excited to wear.
1. Quilting
I saw this in People StyleWatch September issue, and this trend is definitely showing up everywhere, from leather jackets to boots and sweaters. Chanel made the look classic with their purses, and it’s a trend that I hope sticks around for a while. Below is beautiful Rosie in an Anine Bing quilted lambskin jacket:

2. Cobalt Blue
I personally love this color, because it pops and looks amazing on everyone. I love pairing it with white for a real contrast, but wearing it head-to-toe is always super chic (like Hailee Steinfeld in Sportmax).

3. Satchel Bags
Rectangular, fashionable and functional. This is a style that is big now but one that you’ll keep forever. I love that it’s lady-like and mature – and very chic. I love the Alexander Wang Rocco, but at $875 I think that the for-less option below is a nice compromise.

4. Mid-heels
This is one of my personal favorites since it meets my need to be comfortable and also my desire to not look like a giant. Mid-heels are three inches or less, and are especially amazing in t-straps and funky colors. Karolina Kurkova is wearing the Alexander Wang Liya ($615).

5. Midi Skirts
All of the top designers had them on their fall runways, and even though they may remind you of that awkward teenage stage where you started growing out of your clothes and your parents wouldn’t buy you new ones (#therapy) – midi skirts are super high-end and, when paired with heels can also be very lady-like and sexy. Some hit right below the knee, and others sweep mid-calf, so the taller you are, the longer you should go for a more flattering effect. Some of my favorite ladies have been seen out recently in this trend:

6. Statement Coats
No more boring black. Coats with interesting colors and patterns are what to look for this fall. A coat is always a great investment since it can make any outfit. Jessica Alba is on trend in a Gerard Darel coat we probably can’t afford.

Whats your favorite fall trend? Being able to layer up is probably the only thing that makes me look forward to the end of summer…
